Fibre content

Every piece lists its fibre content by generic name and percentage, in descending order by weight, matching the sewn-in label exactly. Where a garment is a blend, all fibres at or above 5% are named individually. We use generic fibre names — merino wool, nylon, lyocell, modal, elastane — rather than trade names, because a generic name tells you how the fabric will behave and a trade name does not.

A guard in our code withholds any product missing fibre content, care instructions or country of origin from the storefront entirely. A piece with an incomplete label is not listed, not linked and not purchasable.

Care instructions

Each piece carries at least one safe cleaning method with a stated water temperature, a bleaching instruction, a drying instruction and an ironing instruction. Where a garment should not be dry cleaned, we say so rather than leaving it out.

Three rules cover almost everything we make:

• Wool goes cold and dries flat. Every merino piece washes at 30°C on a wool or gentle cycle and dries flat in shade. A tumble dryer will felt it, and that is permanent.
• Coated pieces need heat to keep working. Shells with a water-repellent finish should be tumbled low for 20 minutes after washing, which re-sets the finish. Skip fabric softener entirely — it coats the face and kills the beading.
• Nothing gets bleached. Not one piece in this catalogue tolerates chlorine or oxygen bleach.

These are the symbols used on our sewn-in labels and what each one means.

• Machine wash coldOne dot: 30°C / 86°F maximum. Normal agitation unless a bar is shown beneath the tub.
• Machine wash warmTwo dots: 40°C / 104°F maximum.
• Hand washCold water only, no machine agitation, do not wring.
• Do not bleachThis applies to every garment we sell, chlorine and oxygen alike.
• Tumble dry lowLow heat only. Used on synthetics and on coated shells to reactivate the finish.
• Do not tumble dryEvery wool piece in this catalogue. Heat felts wool and it does not come back.
• Dry flatReshape while damp and lay flat out of direct sun. Knitwear only.
• Hang dryOn a hanger or a line, in shade. This is how our published dry times are measured.

• Warm iron150°C / 300°F maximum.
• Do not ironCoated shells and the crinkle-finish skirt. Heat destroys both finishes permanently.

Country of origin

Country of origin is stated on every product page and matches the sewn-in label. We make no domestic-origin claim. A “made in” claim naming the United States would require that all or virtually all of the product — including the fabric, the trim and the assembly — originate there. That is not the case for anything in this catalogue, so no piece carries such a claim, in any wording, anywhere on this site.

California Proposition 65

California requires a warning before exposing anyone in the state to listed chemicals. Trim components — zip pulls, coated fabrics, printed elements — can contain listed substances, most often phthalates used as plasticisers.

We assess each piece at the component level and display the warning on any product whose trim we have not been able to clear. 13 of 44 pieces currently carry a warning, and it appears on the product page next to the country of origin as well as on the physical label. A warning is not a statement that the product is unsafe; it is a statement that we have not cleared it and are telling you rather than staying silent.

Materials we do not use

• No real fur, and no fur from any regulated species.
• No exotic or regulated animal skins.
• No down or feather fill. Our insulated pieces are synthetic, and the fill weight is published.
• No antimicrobial or biocidal fabric treatments of any kind. See performance testing for why.
• No third-party logos, no airline or airport marks, no place-name trademarks. Nothing we make carries any mark but our own.
