How each figure is taken

  • Chest: Across the chest 2.5 cm below the armhole, doubled.
  • Body length: From the high point of the shoulder straight down to the hem.
  • Sleeve: From the shoulder seam to the cuff edge.
  • Shoulder: Seam to seam across the back.

Measured flat, finished garment. Tolerance ±1 cm (±0.4 in). Cut straight through the body. Sized on the mens block; size down one for a closer fit.

What this piece does not do

  • Fleece is not wind resistant. It needs a shell over it in wind.
  • Synthetic fleece sheds fibres in the wash. A filter bag helps.
  • We make no antimicrobial, odour-control or medical claim for this garment, and we do not describe it as waterproof.

The thinking

A grid fleece traps air in the channels and moves moisture along them. The practical result is a mid-layer that is warm for its weight and that does not turn into a sponge.

The face is a flat knit, so a shell slides over it and it does not pill against a pack strap.

Quarter zip with a deep placket, which is the fastest way to shed heat without taking a layer off in a queue.
