How each figure is taken

  • Waist: Across the waistband, doubled, relaxed.
  • Hip: Across the widest point below the fly, doubled.
  • Inseam: From the crotch seam to the leg opening.
  • Outseam: From the top of the waistband to the leg opening.
  • Thigh: Across the leg 2.5 cm below the crotch, doubled.

Measured flat, finished garment. Tolerance ±1 cm (±0.4 in). Waist figures are the relaxed flat measurement, doubled. Stretch fabrics give a further 4–6 cm before the fit changes.

What this piece does not do

  • Cotton-face cloth: 7 hours to dry hanging. It is not a rinse-and-wear-tomorrow trouser.
  • No water-repellent finish on this one.
  • We make no antimicrobial, odour-control or medical claim for this garment, and we do not describe it as waterproof.

The thinking

Sometimes the room requires a trouser that does not look like equipment. This one has a proper chino front, a clean back pocket and no visible technical detail.

The cloth does the work: a cotton-nylon twill with 4% elastane that recovers from a seated crease within about twenty minutes of standing.

Grade 4 of 5 on the wrinkle scale, which for a cotton-face trouser is as good as we have achieved.
